Arcane Magical Auras

Arcane spell-casters manifest an aura when they cast spells. The aura briefly manifests out of the caster's body and into the target of the spell, dissipating rapidly but leaving a lingering magical residue that a skilled theurgists or mage can theoretically follow.   Arcane magic normally presents consistent auras based on the school of magic.   Abjuration: Blue   Conjuration: Orange   Enchantment: Yellow   Illusion: Purple   Necromancy: Green   Transmutation: Red

Manifestation

The more powerful and complex the spell, the brighter and longer the associated color manifests. Though even with powerful spells, auras visible to the naked eye don't usually last longer than a few seconds and more common spells are often a blink and you miss it flash of an aura's color.   Magical sight enhancement, specially the "Detect Magic" spell will make invisible auras visible to the subject of the Detect Magic spells.   Aura location often let observers make educated guesses on what the magic is and does. For instance, extra-sensory enhancements tend to manifest auras around the eyes. Enchanted weapons of course manifest an aura around the weapon.   Old spells leave faint residual magical auras that a mage with Detect Magic or a theurgist with Illumination can theoretically track. Common spells leave a magical for several hours while powerful magic might leave a lingering aura for up to a couple days.

Localization

Magical auras are mostly a side effect of arcane magic, not a main effects, but some spells deliberately manipulate auras.   Some spells can magnify magical auras to make them visible to the naked eye. The Luminescence spell deliberately magnifies the aura of Enchantment for use as a light source.   Some anti-illusion spells magnify the purple aura, so false visions are marked for what they are.   The Illusion spell "Fake Magic Aura" can falsify magic auras, just as the name implies.

Compared to Divine Auras

Arcane and Divine Magic Auras often look similar, especially to the naked eye.   Blue auras can show arcane Abjurers or Mera theurgy or Greymoria theurgy and it's difficult for untrained eyes to tell the difference, though context can clear things up. If a spell-caster is brandishing around a Mera holy symbol, observers could make an educated guess on what kind of magic it is..   Under enhanced magical sight, arcane magic auras tend to form a texture of chaotic squiggles and divine magic forms and unforms geometric shapes and patterns.
