Dibbrist the Gong Farmer

Dibbrist is not an ordinary gong farmer.   It is unusual for gnomes to take up this profession. Gnomes generally avoid manual labor if they can help it, not because they are lazy because their small size puts them at a disadvantage compared to non-gnomes, so they tend to be paid less.   And gnomes have a greater sense of smell than humans and most other "big folk", so you would think they would avoid a job based on shoveling and transports carts of feces.   Dibbrist is an ollum, albeit an ollum that can pass for an ordinary gnome, at least among non-gnomes.   Gong farmers are socially invisible and they can enter many different locations without being questioned. Few people want to talk to or even make eye contact with gong farmers, so Dibbrists odd mannerisms normally pass completely unnoticed and if they are noticed, they are not thought much of. Of course a gong farmer is going to be a little awkward socially.   Dibbrist moonlights with criminals as a smuggler and transporter of contraband goods since no one is going to check his cart very thoroughly. Sometimes, acting as a gong farmer he will case locations and pass information on to burglars in exchange for a "cut" of the loot. Dibbrist is actually pretty good at breaking and entering himself but after narrowly avoiding being caught, he opts to stay a middle man.   Even more nefariously, Dibbrist acts as a spy for a gang of ogres. He quietly observes people while attending his "duty" as a gong farmer and figures out wjocj individuals could probably disappear without being missed and then passes this information along to his ogre allies, who also give him a "cut".

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Dibrist has good muscle tone, as one would expect for a young gnome that pushes carts, lifts heavy pots, and swings a shovel for a living.   Dibrist is stronger than he looks. His muscles are quite dense.   Dibrist looks like he has the strength of an above average gnome, but he's actually as strong as a an above average human.   He looks a little bit pale and sickly (which might expect for a gong farmer), but he is actually very hale and hearty.   He's also a very fast runner for a gnome. Despite his short legs, he can outpace most humans. Being good at running away is an early adaptation for many ollums.

Body Features

Like a large number of gnomes, Dibrist is mostly earthy with a large splash of water   Since becoming an ollum, Dibrist's fingers and arms have grown slightly, but not enough to be readily noticeable. The difference is subtle enough that only a gnome is likely to notice the difference, and even then, only if they looked at Dibrist closely.

Facial Features

Dibbrist is not a handsome man, but no one is going to look at him and think he's anything other than an ordinary gnome who just happens to be poor.

Identifying Characteristics

Dibrist ears are noticeably larger than a typical gnome and they have a vaguely canine appearance. Dibrist usually conceals this under a hood or a floppy hat.

Special abilities

Dibbrist is stronger and more resilient than he looks.   Most impressively, Dibbrist has enhanced senses. All of his senses are heightened but his sense of hearing is truly supernatural. Unlike many mutants with heightened senses, he is not especially vulnerable to sensory overload.   Like most ollums, he's good at telling people what they want to hear.   Unlike most ollums, he has not developed the sticky hands or innate camouflage, at least not yet.

Apparel & Accessories

Dibrist dresses as inconspicuously as possible. Usually baggy brown clothes.

Mental characteristics

Mental Trauma

Every ollum is mentally unwell to some degree. Usually an ollum's mental illness is defined by loneliness and isolation, but in this case by the fact that a being with supernaturally enhanced senses is surrounded by feces.   Most normal gong farmers go partially "nose blind", but Dibbrist embraces the stench metaphorically speaking.   Mentally, his entire sense of aesthetics are warped. Perfumes and flowers disgust him. Beautiful things and people are ugly to him. Ugly sights, sounds, and smells are pleasing to him. So far he still has the mental capacity to pretend this is not the case because he realizes this is innately suspicious.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Unlike most other ollums, Dibbrist actually has a strong social life though he generally avoids other gnomes as much as possible.   Dibbrist is good at networking with criminals and scumbags that's not his real social network. He is an established presence in the Gong Farmers Guild and is on good terms with his fellow gong farmers.   Dibbrist has gained a lot of wealth from his criminal activities, but he doesn't have a lot of things to spend his coins on, so he actually gives a lot of alms to the poor, so he has many friends among the poor and downtrodden. It's not just cover, he actually cares about these people and likes them.   But Dibbrist also sets up homeless people to be ogre food, and Dibbrist takes a nibble. How does he reconcile this? He supports and protects beggars and vagrants in his local area, the poor people he helps murder are all out-of-towners passing through.

Story Purpose of Dibbrist for RPG adventures

I deliberately did not say where Dibbrist lives. He can be put anyway a Storyteller or Game Master wants.   Dibbrist is not a physical threat to a party of adventurers. Maybe, if he had the element of surprise he could take down one adventurer with some lucky rolls.   Dibbrist could be a useful spy to leader of a band of brigands, or a pack of ogres, or some psychopathic cultists, or a skin changer witch.   Basically, whoever the "Villain of the Week" you can attach Dibbrist to said villain to make sure the Villain of the Week is well-informed.   And since Dibbrist is so good at being functionally invisible he can probably survive the death or capture of the Villain of the Week, and then start toadying up to another villain. It might be three or four separate villains before the PCs catch wind that a creepy little gnome is the common thread between them.
