There is a belief in Scarterra that faerie food is cursed and will enchant mortals who eat it. This is a half-truth.
By itself, faerie food has no special effect on mortals beyond what ordinary food does. And compared to mortal food, faerie food is usually tastier and resists spoiling for longer.
But eating faerie food makes a mortal more susceptible to faerie magic, at least temporarily.
Transmission & Vectors
Any food prepared by a faerie counts as faerie food. The more it's prepared, the more potent it is. A layered cake with lots of ingredients is far more potent than plucking an apple from a tree.
In fact, a mortal foraging for his food in the realm of Fae Home is actually immune from the affects of eating faerie food if he prepares all his own food (though very few mortals or fae know this).
The greater the quantity of food consumed, the more potent the effect. The longer period a mortal eats faerie food, the longer the effect will last.
Symptoms
A mortal under the affects of faerie food is more susceptible to faerie magic. This includes all faerie magic, making them easier to effect with blessings and curses equally.
Above all, it makes mortals easy to find and track with fae divination magic, at least in the mortal realm. Eating faerie food in Fae Home actually helps mortals blend in.
Treatment

Prognosis
The effects of eating faerie food wears off on it's own. Nibbling a tiny bit on a snack will dissapate in an hour. If a mortal eats a full hearty meal, the effects will wear off in about a day.
If a mortal has been regularly eating faerie food for months or even years on end, the effects will fade away a lunar month after they completely stop eating faerie food.
Affected Groups
Seemingly all mortals are affected by this trait of faerie food, though @[dragons](species:a8c883da-ee8e-4b70-93a6-70b20763538d are reputedly immune to this.
Beasts and any living creatures that do not possess mortals are immune to the effects of faerie food.
Cultural Reception
Fair Folk are feared and misunderstood. Folk tales of the dangers of eating faerie food are greatly exaggerated. Some mortals have allowed themselves to starve to death rather than consent to eating faerie food.
