pole weapons

Short Spear, difficulty 6, minimum Strength 2, Strength +2 (S)/+3 (H) lethal damage Special Trait: throwable 1 silver piece   Short spears are very literally named. Largely out of favor in civilized lands, the main advantage of spears is their versatility. They are often carried in pairs. The first is for throwing and the second is for fighting.   Spear (2H), difficulty 6, minimum Strength 2, Strength +3 (S)/+4 (H) lethal damage. Special Traits: throwable, reach, can be used one handed if wielder has Strength 3. 2 silver pieces   A sharp point on a long stick, the most popular battlefield weapon in Scarterra for rank and file troops. Also handy for adventurers for it's versatility against flyers and large monsters.   Pike (2H), minimum Strength 2, Strength +3 (S)/+4 (H) lethal damage. Special Traits: superior reach 5 silver pieces   Essentially this is a very long spear. No commonly available melee weapon has greater reach.

"A spear is a sharp point on a long stick, but it's more than that. The most common symbol of the Testers is a pair of crossed spears for a reason. Spears are the most popular battlefield weapon in all of Scarterra. Spears are the ultimate equalizer, the ultimate test because anyone can make or use an acceptable spear regardless of their race, nation, or social class and they are simple to use. Spears are so simple to make, that a total ban on weapons is unenforceable.
It gives the wielder reach, it can be wielded one handed or two handed, it can be thrown a short distance with moderate accuracy. With spears, any mortal can become a potential threat and any mortal can at least make a reasonable effort about fending for himself."
Trident, difficulty 7, minimum Strength 3, Strength +4 (S)/ +3 (H) lethal damage Special Traits: throwable, +1 disarm, +1 parry 15 silver pieces   Militarized variation of the fisherman's trident. Essentially this is a three pointed short spear. It is generally viewed as a gimmicky weapon favored as much for showmanship as much as practicality.   Halberd (2H), difficulty 6, minimum Strength 3, Strength +4 (S)/+5 (H) lethal damage. Special Traits: reach, top heavy 1 gold piece   To over simply things, this is a spiked warhammer on a long stick.     Glaive (2H), difficulty 6, minimum Strength 3, Strength +5 (S)/+4 (H) lethal damage. Special Traits: reach, top heavy 8 silver pieces   To over simply things, this is an axe head on a long stick.

I admit I have oversimplified pole arms

I know there many types of polearms.  I have simplified things into three basic types.   Spears: When simplicity and cheapness is the primary goal.   Pikes:  When maximizing reach is the primary goal   Halberds:  When reach is to be combined with maximum armor penetration   Glaives:  When reach is to be combined with maximum slashing damage.
