Sense the Tether

Bendek by Eron12 on Hero Forge
Usually it's fairly obvious to figure out who is casting what magic, but sometimes it's not obvious, in which case we have Sense the Tether to figure out who is responsible for what magic and who is controlling whom.   Sense the Tether is way to link magic to the one pulling their strings, metaphorically speaking. And if no one is pulling the strings, the spell reveals that too.   -Sir Bendek Deorac, mage knight.

If no one is holding the strings, such as with a feral elemental or undead creature, it will reveal that. The caster can see a mystical thread binding the magical effect to the one holding the power. If a magical effect stems from a potion or scroll it will lead to the person who activated the potion or scroll.   If it magical effect stems from a permanent magical item, the tether will tie itself to the person, not to the user of the magic item. Hypothetically, if the person activating a wand drops the wand, the tether will show the magic's connection to the wand, not the person who activated the wand.
