Shift Magic

Shift Magic can change the target of an active spell from one target to another, subject to some restrictions.   "Shift Magic" is not limited to buffs and hexes on living creatures, but it's usually cast on people, moving a beneficial spell from an enemy onto an ally, or moving a harmful spell from an ally on to an enemy. The spell can also move enchantments from one object to another object.   Manipulation Instant

Effect

Shift Magic can change the target of an active spell with the "Spread" or "Persistent" descriptor.   One success is all that is required to move a Spread effect, but to move a Persistent effect, the Abjurer needs to match the successes of the spell effect being moved.   Successes rolled by the Abjurer can be split among multiple spells effects. If the caster scores five successes, he can move a three-success Persistent spell and two Spread spells.   The spell can affect divine magic just as easily as arcane magic, provided it's a "Spread" or "Peristent" spell.

Cancelling a shifted spell

Normally, a caster can cancel any active spell he or she previously casted at any time.   This is not the case here. A shifted spell now "belongs" to the Abjurer, or at least the portions hijacked belonged to the Abjurer. If a spell originally targeted four people, and an Abjurer moved the spell for two people, then teh Abjurer "owns" the half of the spell that he took control of. In that case, the Abjurer can cancel his half of the spell at any time and the original caster can cancel her half of the spell at any time.   Otherwise, the spell ends when the normal duration would end.

The Abjurer needs clear line of sight to both the old target(s) of the spell being moved and the new target(s) of the spell being moved.   The new target, must be a legal target of the original spell, in other words not immune. Undead are immune to pain spells, so an Abjurer cannot move a pain spell on to an undead.   You can't double up targets for identicial moved spell. Hypothetically if an Abjurer has four allies subject to "Waves of Pain" and je wamts wants to help all four of them, he needs four legal targets to move the pain effect to. He can't pile four pain spells onto a single enemy.   If a tool, weapon, or piece of clothing or armor is temporarily enchanted, Shift magic can move the enchantment away, but Shift Magic cannot affect a peramennt magical item or dormant magic stored in a potion, scroll, wand or similar item.   Usually, the Abjurer casts "Detect Magic" or "Analyze Magic" before casting this spell. If an Abjurer casts "Shift Magic" without magical sight active he might move a spell effect he didn't want to move. If a subject of "Shift Magic" has more than one active magical effect and the Abjurer doesn't have magical sight activated, than the spell moved is chosen at random.   "Shift Magic" cannot move an Area Spell.   "Shift Magic" can move a magical disguise or invisibility spell (provided the Abjurer can see through the illusion spell), but the caster cannot move an illusion that is not tied to a specific creature or object.   "Shift Magic" has no effect on conjured or summoned items or creatures.
