Talon of Aeres
The Talon of Aeres is a storied magical sword of great power that has become a symbol of the authority and power of House Selwyth though it's construction and use predates it.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The Talon of Aeres is a long sword, also known as a bastard sword.
The magical enchantment bestows a modest damage boost but a large accuracy and defensive bonus to the wielder.
History
The Talon of Aeres's exact creation is unknown. It is widely believed to have been constructed by Fair Folk or at least influenced by Fair Folk though it has been used by mighty sorcerer warriors in Kingdom of Swynfaredia for centuries.
After Gerralt was destroyed Kormatin and his allies, Kormatin now carries the blade himself and House Selwyth has placed a 1000 silver piece bounty on the blade even though the blade is worth well more than that. House Selwyth is hoping that most lowlife thieves would rather have a large pile of coins rather than have a nice magic sword.
The name Talon of Aeres is from its most famous user, a warrior sorcress named Aeres who founded a Bloodline which was eventually subsumed by the House Selwyth which they married into. The Talon of Aeres became a symbol of power for the patriarch/matriarch of House Selwyth and carefully loaned out on a temporary basis to Selwyth warriors. Unfortunately for House Selwyth, it fell under the auspice of the lich Gerallt who had secretly taken over House Selwyth and was very miserly with the sword even though his need for the blade was questionable and he couldn't carry it for public appearances.
Significance
Besides being one of the most powerful magical swords in the central region of West Colassia, its storied history has given it value beyond its mere utility.
The leaders of House Selwyth are secretly pleased that Gerralt lich was killed, and killed relatively quietly. But they are unhappy that their family's ancestral weapon is in the hands of an enemy.
They put a 1000 silver piece bounty on the sword. Kormatin, who carries the sword, already has a much larger bounty on his head. The Selwyths figure if someone kills Kormatin and collects the bounty, any bounty hunter strong enough to kill Kormatin will probably choose to keep the sword for themselves or they will ask for a lot more than 1000 silver pieces. But 1000 silver pieces is enough to make any pick pocket or burglar drool.
If and when Kormatin dies or somehow loses the sword, they will hatch a new plan to get the sword back.
