What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

I’d like to request a set of quality‑of‑life improvements for the Article CSS editor. These additions would significantly streamline workflow, reduce friction when working with longer CSS blocks, and bring the editor closer to the usability of modern code‑editing environments.

1. Quick “Comment” Button

A toolbar button that inserts the standard CSS comment syntax (

/* … */

) would be extremely helpful.

2. Optional Line Numbers

A toggle to show/hide line numbers in the CSS editor.

3. “Focus Mode” Button

A button that temporarily expands the CSS editor into a distraction‑free, full‑height (or full‑screen) editing space.

These three features would make the Article CSS editor far more powerful and user‑friendly, especially for creators who rely heavily on custom styling. Thank you for considering these enhancements, and for all the continued improvements to the platform.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

1. Quick “Comment” Button

  • Speeds up testing and debugging
  • Reduces typing repetition
  • Helps newer users learn proper comment formatting
  • 2. Optional Line Numbers

  • Makes troubleshooting much easier, especially when errors reference specific lines
  • Improves collaboration when sharing snippets with others
  • Helps users navigate long CSS blocks more efficiently
  • 3. “Focus Mode” Button

  • Greatly improves readability for large CSS sections
  • Reduces scrolling and visual clutter
  • Matches the behavior of many modern code editors
  • What are other uses for this feature request?

It would really help to add it to the world CSS as well.

    The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! We understand how this would be useful, but it's not a priority right now. We recommend using a local editor (such as the free Visual Studio Code), and then copy-paste the code onto World Anvil.

Having the Save button float on screen next to the CSS rather than having to scroll all the way back to the top would also be nice, as would not having the entire CSS zoom back to the top and make you have to find where you working again after every time you save.

I would likely never use these features. Whenever I want something an IDE provides, I just use an IDE. I still support making coding on WA easier, but not if it takes development time away from features unique to WA.
