Demid the Reluctant Loa Hero
Demid was a son of humble fish mongers in the city of King's Lake. A humble and pious boy who loved his family and was content with his simple life. A simple life was not in the cards for him. He quickly realized he was a spirit loa and that the restless dead would grant him little peace.
Then more and more murder victims' ghosts began seeking him out. While Damid got a lot of positive attention, and some gold as reward, he attracted the unwanted attention of some murderous lowlifes who viewed him as a threat. He had to repeatedly call on spirits to channel their fighting ability, simply to survive, eventually becoming a moderately competant warrior in his own right, but still relying on his Spirit Loa powers for an edge against superior opponents.
In addition to living murderers, he also sometimes attracted malevolent ghosts. He left the land of Fumaya and sought to disappear in the Border Baronies Region figuring wiht the sparser population he would have fewer troublesome ghosts and people but the Borderlands has a lot of blood watering the hills, so he still gets approached by many ghosts. He has helped enough restless dead move on and helped catch enough murderers that he got a positive reputation among the general living population, even in the Borderlands. Though while he gets a lot of free drinks in bars, he also occasionally draws unfavorable attention from na'er dowells of which the Borderlands has plenty.
Eventually he got relatively comfortable talking to the spirits of the restless dead, but he generally disliked acting as "horse" channeling spirits to let them ride him. In between helping his family he did his best to help ghosts pass on. A lot of times their requests were pretty simple, often little more than passing on a message to the departed's loved ones. Then he helped a ghost solve their murder by providing evidence to the local patrols.
