Fumayan Mercy Regiment
the Fumayan Mercy Regiment is better known "Lolek's Boys" is a militia of soldiers that is mostly made up of paroled criminals.
Composition
Manpower
Lolek's Boys is made up of couple hundred paroled criminals.
Sir Lolek is the commander. He has two other knights serving as lieutenants and four men-at-arms. All commanders were handpicked by Grand Marshal Casmir as a means to channel Fumaya's most brutal knights and sergeants towards a useful end.
Lolek is assisted by a small attachment from Fumayan Masks, both to put the fear of Phidas into the men and to provide supportive theurgy.
Weaponry
King Henryk will not shed many tears if a bunch of criminals die, but the Mercy Regiment is not a suicide squad of arrow catching or soak troops.
Thanks to good relations with the dwarf leaders of Meckelorn, Henryk was able to build up a strong armory.
Lolek's boys have the same quality of arms and armor that more respectable infantry units enjoy.
Structure
Lolek is a military commander capable of inspiring both love and fear.
Among the unit's commanders, Lolek's knightly retainers play the roll of "Good Cop" and his retainers among the Fumayan Masks play the role of "Bad Cop".
Tactics
The regiments relies on courage and enthusiasm more than on discipline. They acquitted themselves well in the first major battle of the war, but like the rest of the Fumayan army, they benefited from superior intelligence. They knew the time and place of the Swynfaredian's first major offensive and were able to plan accordingly.
Training
Many of the paroled criminals were thugs and lowlifes that had some experience with weapons and fighting.
Sir Lolek and the Masks were able to impose a harsh training regiment to boost the unit's fighting ability by a fair bit in a relatively short period of time.
History
Currently, the Kingdom of Swynfaredia is trying to conquer and annex Kingdom of Fumaya.
Queen Gwendolyn ap Numaness of Swynfaredia was not very subtle about her military ambitions, so King Henryk of Fumaya had more than two years warning, time he spent increasing his military by any means necessary.
One of the king's more controversial means was offering criminals a pardon if the joined the militia. Five to nine years of military service based on the nature of their crime, but those who behave valorously can get years shaved off their term.
In theory, paroled criminals could be assigned to any militia but most ended up under Sir Lolek's command. Sir Lolek is a middle aged knight of common birth promoted by Henyrk's late father King Ziven the Merry. Lolek has a checkered past himself, but he has the combination of charisma and ruthlessness to make a regiment of untrustworthy riffraff have something akin to military discipline.
