High Priestess Chimene

Priestess Chimene is the ranking member of the Fumayan Children. She attained her rank based on her raw magic power, and not her diplomatic or managerial skills.   Chimene's supporters say that she is a wise leader who delegates day-to-day tasks to competent underlings based on merit. Chimene detractors claim she pawns tedious tasks on underlings out of laziness. Perhaps both are true.   Chimene is fairly introverted and is rarely seen or heard by the general except on major Greymoria based holidays though she can deliver surprisingly passionate sermons and speeches on these occasions.

Physical Description

Special abilities

In terms of sphere power and versatility, Chimene is one of the strongest theurgists in the land of Fumaya.   She is an arch theurgist (level five) caster in at least two spheres Divination and Crafts and judging by the wide number of potions and scrolls she can make, has at least Acolyte (level three) power in Augmentation, Healing, Hexing, and Protection

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Chimene was a insular and rebellious daughter of fairly well-to-do commoners. Chimene always felt a spiritual kinship with the goddess, Greymoria and a dislike of her parents.   She ran away form home to avoid an unwanted betrothal and sought succor among the Children developing theurgy powers fairly quickly, so she believed that it was unnecessary to study wizardry and become a completionist.   She operated as a freelance adventurer and traveled to many different varied corners of West Colassia. She doesn't share the details about this time of her life with many people. It is speculated that at some point she had some bad experiences with various Swynfaredians.   Chimene returned to Fumaya in her mid-thirties as a very powerful theurgist. She had already known the basics of alchemy, but once retiring from fieldwork, she increased her focus on alchemical studies and generally hit the books on many subjects.   She became a prodigious creator of magical items and a valuable mentor to many Fumayan Children.

Sexuality

During her adventuring days, Chimene had some on-again off again lovers, but she has no biological children that anyone is aware of, and she reportedly has not pursued any romantic relationships since taking up full-time temple duty.   She does not lecture Fumayan Children and what they should or should not with regards to romantic relationships and she seemingly has no overt bias for against Children who are celibate or Children who are married.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

She has made it clear that she supports the Fumayan Children putting their full resources and manpower towards ensuring that Fumaya wins the current war against Swynfaredia. She has not publicly stated why she has taken this position.   Most of her underlings say that the Swynfaredian Children are basically heretics and the Swynfaredian Dragonbloods are heathens who are deserving of Greymoria's wrath. A few Fumayan Children have stated that King Henryk has wisely made it easy for Fumayan wizards to practice their art unimpeded by red tape though this is arguably a veiled threat, (if you want to keep enjoying our support, you need to keep being pro-wizard).
She also has not actively been directing how the Fumayan Children should pursue the war though she did reputedly create the policy that the Fumayan Children should sell poisons and potions to Fumayan warriors at cost with no markup. This represents a big shift. Before tensions between Fumaya and Swynfaredia swelled, Chimene had a reputation for being a tough negotiator and very mercenary minded, selling potions to the highest bidder asking few if any questions.

She also reputedly is fond of the expression that you don't win a war by dying for your country, you win a war by making the other guy die for his country.

The New Guard

Chimene is quite old. Ignoring the fact that many Children of the Dark Mother meet violent deaths, Chimene can't stay head of the Fumayan Children for too much longer.   Carcelli the gnome is widely believed to believed to be auditioning to become Chimene's successor. Opinions differ on whether Chimene likes this idea or not.
Carcelli, Parchment Background by Zeta Gardner
Carcelli is knowledgeable in poisons and other cloak and dagger activities, but no one suspects Carcelli of plotting to off her boss. Carcelli is a young gnome and Chimene is an elderly human. Carcelli can let time kill her boss soon enough, and Carcelli is happy to be a loyal servant to Chimene.   Since Chimene is not actively involved in the day-to-day affairs of the Fumayan Children, it would not change their infrastructure or culture much when she dies. It is worth nothing that a majority of the Fumayan Children are mages, not theurgists and she is one of the most knowledgeable alchemists in Fumaya. Chimene's death would have a huge impact on the Fumayan Children ability to manufacture, sell, and trade divine based potions and scrolls.   Rumor is Chimene herself is concerned with this and she is quietly stockpiling potions in preparation for her own demise.
