How does judgment work for Scarterrans in the afterlife

If a soul is extremely tainted by Void energies, upon a mortal's death the soul is drawn into the Void and faces utter oblvion.   None of the Nine want this to happen, not even the "evil" ones and avoiding getting souls sucked into the Void is something they agree on. In the Fuedal Era of the Third Age this is an extremely rare event due to the mystic safeguard the Nine put into place. This isn't so much out of altruism as it is for self-preservation. The Nine fear the Void and don't want to feed it if they can help it.   A member of the "Restless Dead" or "ghosts" are complicated. A lot of factors determine whether or not a soul comes back as a ghost. , but the number one factor seems to be having strong drives and unresolved issues tying the soul to the land where their living self once dwelled. The Nine generally would prefer to have fewer ghosts than more ghosts, but they either can't stop the "birth" of ghosts entirely or they just haven't made it a priority. Scarterran theologians and scholars estimate that at most 3% of Scarterra's dead become "restless". A ghost that can get past his/her issues can ascend to the proper afterlife. A ghost that doesn't is going to fall into oblivion.   At least 97% of Scarterra's dead make it to the proper life, a subrealm of the Aetherial Realm known as the Star Fields, based on the accounts of the dead themselves, this is widely believe to be in the night sky itself.   The Star Fields are a sprawling mass of homes, gardens, and various landmarks. The Nine have reluctantly agreed to make the Star Fields relatively pleasant. Partially out of altruism, but also for convenience, since souls escaping the afterlife cause the Nine a lot of headaches.   The Star Fields is the normal afterlife for normal souls of the honored dead. A small number of souls are given a special reward or punishment. The Nine Hells are the locations where souls are punished and the Celestial Castles are the places where souls are rewarded.   In general, a lot more souls are rewarded than punished. There are only nine Hells, but there are well over a hundred Celestial Castles (and still counting).
