The cat came back the very next day
Kormatin’s party, now swelled in numbers by all the members of Bethwyn’s and Ragle’s families. With so many houses damaged, the inns were packed beyond capacity, so the party opted to camp out.
As the sun was setting, a cat wandered in.
“Kitty!” said one of the younger girls. Immediately the cat turned towards her and started nuzzling her affectionately.
Cadek the theurgist walked over and gently stroked the cat with two fingers.
“The cat is far too well-fed to be a stray. Maybe someone’s house pet got lost in the windstorm.”
Now having gotten the majority of camp’s attention, the cat looked around all the humanoids.
“Anyone got any fish?”
It took a moment to process that the cat was the one who spoke. As murmers of “did the cat just talk?” spread about the camp, Kormatin activated his aura site to check for illusion magic and found no active magic around the cat. Ragani spoke.
“This cat is a Nami spirit, are you a messenger spirit?” she asked the cat.
“That depends…”
The cat rolled it’s eyes and paused.
“Anyone got any fish?”
Aleesia rummaged in the supplies to find some dried fish fillet.
“Thanks Aleesia,” the cat addressed her by name then started munching. After a couple minutes of everyone looking at him with rapt attention, the cat took an exaggerated regal lion style pose.
“I bring a message on behalf of Nami, the Gifter of Freedom, the Lady of Winds, and the Spirit of Wine and Spirits.”
She paused dramatically, perhaps overly long.
“Many homes were damaged by the windstorms but relatively few homes were destroyed. Nami, in her wisdom and benevolence has kindly made sure that your homes were all completely destroyed!”
The cat paused briefly and sort of a gave a tilt of its head.
“Now none of the Dragonbloods will question why you are gone or bother to go looking for you. They have bigger things to worry about. Praise be to Nami!”
Aleesia quickly echoed the last part, followed shortly by the rest. Then the cat began eating more fish.
