the honored dead

The honored dead technically refers to all mortals who soul have passed on the their afterlife, but in common parlance "honored dead" usually to departed souls that are still remembered by the living and have a limited ability to visit the mortal plane, especially during memorial holidays.   The honored dead are under the protection of the Nine and believed to dwell with or at least near them in Aetherial Realm   The honored dead contrasts with the restless dead, better known as ghosts who are denied a proper afterlife and trapped in the material plane. A few unlucky souls do not become honored dead or restless dead and face utter oblviion in the Void.
