Dwynn ap Gorisonad the Third
Duchess Dwyn ap Gorisinad
Dwynn ap Gorisonad the Fourth is the Duchess of Dwyns.
She is also a "double countess", the Countess of Lesser Dwyns and the Countess of Dragon Falls. and they both make above average income for a county. This makes her one of the most powerful duchesses in Swynfaredia.
Politics
In her personal demesne, she controls a trading hub and silver mine and almost enough farmland and timber to sustain er townsfolk and miners. Her two agricultural vassals more than make up for the food and fuel deficit. As a Duchess, she is fairly hands on with her soldiers, but delegates most peacetime rulership activities. She combines meritocracy with nepotism running her kingdom largely on the shoulders of well-educated quiescent Gorisonads, many are her siblings or cousins and she reputedly treats them well and they are loyal. The peasants don't seem to like or dislike Duchess Dwynn any more than the average Swynfaredian peasant feels about their lord.Magic
Duchess Dwyn the Third is a below average sorceress for her age. She is registered as being a Third Circle Transmuter and a Second Circle Conjurer with an elemental focus on both. She is reputedly a crack shot with Fire Blast. Her husband is her court Abjurer and is her Overland Flight taxi service. As a Duchess she has other sorcerers and sorceresses besides her husband but a lot of them are on the battlefront right now.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Dwynn is a relatively common unisex Swynfaredian name. As the first born child of the previous Duchess of Dwynns, she was the heir apparent as long as she bred true as a sorceress. Her mother was also Dwynn and so was her mother. Needless to say, her lineage is relatively free of Fremiss because of their fondness for D-names.
Lady Dwyn was a something of a late bloomer for sorcery, but none of her siblings beat her, so she was always the heir apparent. Dwyn was the oldest child of six children, and all five of her younger siblings were quiescent.
Duchess Dwynn has made no secret that she thinks she would make a good Archduchess.
Education
So she got the world class education befitting a duchess. She is a competent if not extraordinary politician and minister and the peasants don't like or dislike her more than any other liege. She does excel at combat magic and tactics. This is mostly due to necessity rather than personal interest. Most of her ministers are quiescent siblings and cousins, but she believed it was and is important for a ruler to command his/her own
Social
Contacts & Relations
When the Duchy of Dwynns was set up after the conquest of Talama, the County of Apples (Numaness) and Red Pass County (Fremiss-A) were given to Gorisonad rivals as a check on the duchy's power.
Duchess Dwynn Gorisinad the First and Duchess Dwyn Gorisonad the Second tried an iron fist to keep her troublesome vassals in line. Duchess Dwyn the Third favors the carrot more than the stick. She has tried to win over her vassals by lowering their feudal duties to win thier loyalty and it seems to work with the Red Count. The two reportedly get along well, the Countess of Apples, not so much. The Countess of Apples is not blatantly rebellious or anything but the two reputedly do not get along well as people relating to full formality.
Family Ties
Dwynn's family line has good luck with their first born breeding true with sorcery, but on average they are producing fewer trueborn sorcerers and sorceresses than most Swynfaredian line This is how she became a double countess. The previous count of Dragon Falls died without a sorcer heir and he and Dwyn the Third shared an ancestor in the first Duchess of Dwynn.
Dwyn the Third has five brothers and sisters without sorcery and more than a few quiescent cousins. They make up a large portion of inner circle of courtiers.
Dwyn married a "quarter-dragon" named Dorisatt. Dorisatt is a scion of a bloodline with no wealth or or political pull but a strong magical ability. The wide speculation is that Dwyn married Dorisatt specifically to shore up her bloodline's "Leaky Bucket". They married for political reasons, but reputedly get along well.
Lady Dwyn and Lord Dorisatt have five children and only one is quiescent (though one is too young to be sure either way) and a few minor draconic traits that Swynfaredian Dragonbloods find appealing.
