Faramund Fields

The Kingdom of Uskala is probably the darkest and most oppressive kingdom run by humans in the 19th century of the Feudal Era of the Third Age. There is no shortage of dungeons and prisons in the land of Uskala.   Faramund Fields is a province set up as a penal colony. This is a province known for it's terrifying prisons within a nation known for it's terrifying prisons.

Geography

The region is close to, but technically not a part of the Great Colassian Tundra.   The mostly featureless plains dotted with small amounts of trees has little in the way of natural features. It does have fortresses, dungeons, walled enclosures and a wide array of prison facilities plus accommodations for the wardens and guards.

Climate

Faramund Fields has cold climate, but not so cold that it doesn't still have four seasons. The summer is just mild and short.

Natural Resources

The area is rumored to hold some kind of mind or difficult to collect reagents, but that is not confirmed.   There is some arable land, though it's not especially productive arable land.

History

The Faramund Fields is named after Lord Faramund, the first Archduke appointed by King Drosst. Stories are vague about exactly what Archduke Faramund but Drosst accused him of treachery. He was stripped of his titles (though his heirs were allowed to keep them, and sent to a prison up north.   After nine years there, he returned, recanted his crimes, warned his heirs to never cross Drosst in anyway, and took a job as a stable hand for the remainder of his life.   Faramund Fields became a penal colony for high status criminals that for whatever reason, King Drosst doesn't want them to killed. Normally it's people Drosst wants to make an example of.   Some prisoners die in Faramund Fields. Some are sold into slavery. But about a little over half of the inmates are eventually freed and either returned to their old positions in society or in a lower position. Those released,, "unharmed". The freed prisoners come back dead-eyed and submissive. Paroled prisoners are pretty tight lipped about what horrors they endured, so what exactly goes on in the Faramund Fields remains a mattered of fearful speculation.

Tourism

The Faramund Fields have a lot of guards and wardens. Not many of King Drosst's minions are champing at the bit to be assigned guard duty in such a cold and lonely place.   But the Kingdom of Uskala is a ruthless and dark place that produces it's fair share of psychopaths. Some of them relish the opportunity to unleashed their sadistic urges relatively unrestrained.   Many of the wardens of Uskala's various dungeons were initially trained in the Faramund Fields. If you are a psychopath that wants to advance your career as a torturer or interrogator, this is a good place to go.
