Griffin Bats

King Drosst gives his camazotz subjects a lot of freedom and autonomy to manage their own affairs. In return he expects there help with "security issues".   The Griffin Bats is the informal nickname for Drosst's camazotz elite brute squad, part shock troops, part secret police. They are distinguishable from Uskala's ordinary camazotz by their uniforms. Black composite armor with the Uskala heraldic blood red griffin featured prominently on their chests.

Structure

While Drosst can and does sic ordinary camazotz against people he doesn't like, the Griffin Bats represent his best bat warriors.   Each Griffin Bat are vetted by the king personally from a pool of volunteers. Uskala that are especialy big and strong are valued, but the most important trait is intelligence. The Griffin Bats can all read and write, a rare trait among camazotz in general. Usually they become literate as part of their training after being recruited but very forward thinking camazotz learn to read first and use this as a selling point for their recruitment.   The Griffin Bats answer directly to the king, usually via written correspondence, but they are expected to be clever and autonomous to make good decisions in the field without constant oversight.   Usually the Griffin Bats operate in squads of two to five. If they need more muscle, they can deputize any camazotz they wish, or less commonly, they can deputize Uskalan humans.

Public Agenda

To do whatever Drosst wants. Specifcally they are seek out and punish traitors to the crown.   Ordinary Uskalan camazotz will attack people when ordered to, but the Griffin Bats are expected to be more than a blunt instrument. They are expected to go proactively looking for internal threats against King Drosst.
