Most soldiers and adventurers prefer because healing potions are quicker to use, cheaper to buy, and easier to store, but I like to keep some healing powder on hand because they are situationally useful. Physicians and peacetime physicians prefer healing powder or healing potions. If a patient is thrashing about in pain or is unconscious, it is possible but difficult to force feed them a potion, but it's easier to apply healing powder to the wound.
