Lady Palava Wiern
Lady Palava Wiern would otherwise be just another minor Fumayan noblewoman of no import, were it not for the unusual circumstances she was born into that has nothing to do with her family claims.
At age 10, she first starting manifesting rudimentary abilities as a sorceress.
Fumaya's southern neighbor is the Kingdom of Swynfaredia. In Swynfaredia, the upper class is made of sorcerers and sorceresses. Non-sorcerers are not allowed to hold land or hereditary titles.
This means that Palava is the only Fumayan noble that could theoretically marry otherwise join with the Swynfaredian nobility. Since Fumaya and Swynfaredia are at war, Palava is now a powerful political playing piece in a series of intrigues she wanted no part in and barely understands.
If Swynfaredia wins the war and annexes part or all of Fumaya's lands, the Queen of Swynfaredia could install a duke or archduke as the ruler of the conquered lands and have him marry Palava in order to grant the conquest a veneer of legitimacy.
Fumaya is the underdog, so they are not going to be able to realistically conquer and hold Swynfaredian lands, but if they do good enough job inflicting heavy enough losses, they could force Swynfaredia to sue for peace. In which case, a political marriage between Palava and a high ranking lord of one of Swynfaredia's major noble houses could cement a peace treaty.
Palava doesn't relish either of these possibilities. And there is of course a third undesirable outcome that someone decides Palava is a threat to their long-term plans, so they try to kill her before she can end up in a political marriage.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Despite being more of a bookworm than a jock, Palava has very good natural physical health. She shows good aptitude at casting Stamina based spells.
Tacitus and her sorcery mentor are pushing her into more exercise and learning basic sword play.
Special abilities
Palava can reliably cast first circle Conjuration and Necromancy spells, and has recently manifested her first Second Circle spell, Conjure Element.
Her sorcery mentor (borrowed from the Sabbatzarod Coven), believes she should consider learning invocation like her famous ancestor Wiern the Invoker given her physical robustness, but Palava has shown more interest in eventually learning Divination.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Most sorcerers are born from sorcerous bloodlines (legacy sorcerers). A few lucky (unlucky?) individuals are randomly born with sorcerous talent (wild sorcerers).
Castle Wiern is built near a magic font, so the Wiern family is slightly more likely to be randomly born with sorcerous than the general populace, so it is plausible that Palava is a wild sorceress. Though Palava's grandmother was rumored to be unfaithful and promiscuous so it's also plausible that Palava has a bit of Swynfaredian blood in her and doesn't know it.
Ultimately it doesn't matter. She is a sorceress and a Fumayan noblewoman, albeit she is still fifteen.
Palava Wiern is a daughter of House Wiern, one of the ruling houses of Kingdom of Fumaya collectively ruling the Duchy of Wiern.
The Wierns are a fertile family with relatively limited territory, so there are a lot of land-less Wiern including her father, a respected but not particularly showy courtier.
When her sorcery began to manifest around ten, Palava tried to keep her powers under wraps, but her older cousin Tacitus Wiern discovered what was happening and immediately recognized the political ramifications of a Wiern sorceress. He became her mentor and later her guardian through a fosterling relationship.
Fosterling relationships are ordinarily not a big deal. It's common for nobles to take guardianship over other noble's children, so as to expose future lords and ladies to multiple courts, but under the circumstances this is more than a little shady.
Tacitus Wiern is not a heartless monster (otherwise he probably would have murdered his older brother Bohdan to become the heir to their father's title). Tacitus does care for Palava and is a good guardian at least on paper. He has put great care in assuring her safety and proper education. But Tacitus cares for his ambitions above all else.
Tacitus Wiern was able to establish himself as the Baron of the newly established Barony of Blue Peaks, and Palava has been their since as his ward.
Relatively few people know that Palava is a sorceress but the people who know happen to be very powerful which includes but is not limited to King of Fumaya and Queen of Swynfaredia, so Palava will probably never have a semblance of a normal life.
