Pegasi

Pegasi are based off of Pegasus the flying horse from Ancient Greek mythology. Pegasi of course are a staple in many fantasy world.   In Scarterra the first Pegasi were created during the Second Unmaking by Korus, who among other things, is the god of horses.   Korus wanted to provide powerful mounts to aid his most fervent worshipers. Pegasus riders are of course very good at both fighting Void Demons and fleeing from Void Demons as the situations calls for.   When the Third Age dawned, most if not all of the surviving Pegasi were set free. Pegasi travel in herds much as wild horses do although because they can fly, pegasi herds have very long territorial ranges.   A wild Pegasus can be tamed by a strong-willed mortal and a foal can be raised by a careful handler to accept riders, but Pegasi will not breed in captivity so they never can be domesticated.   Many nations have solitary heroes and messengers that ride pegasi, but only the Wood Elves of Codenya (who have a Korus as a patron deity) have enough Pegasi riders to be able deploy full units of them in their armies.
