Seals' Landing
Mooringsland is defined by their central port, the largest human-dominated port in all of East Colassia. The port city is called Marfa Medina, but it is more commonly simply called "Mooringsland" because in the eyes of most of East Colassia, the city and the nation are one and the nation.
That said, the port city boasting a wide navigable river and a large natural harbor has fertile farmland surrounding it, and this land is called Seals Landing and makes up the bulk of Mooringsland's actual land area even if doesn't make up most of the realm's population.
The region was named "Seal's Landing" because it once had lots of seals. The seal population has declined significantly in the last few centuries but the name was grandfathered in.
Industry & Trade
Seal's Landing provides the food and fuel needs for Marfa Medina...barely. Seal's Landing can keep the port city alive, but in order to enjoy their high standard of living, the realm relies heavily on imports.
History
During the Red Era the dark elves established tributory states with most of the humans of East Colassia and parts beyond, but the elves seldom occupied human territory outright. They did establish a small citadel here which used to project their soldiers into the connected riverlands.
The local humans rose against the citadel and overthrew it. Then the dark elves sailed in reinforcements and brutally enacted vengeance upon the locals and rebuilt their citadels.
Generations later, the humans rebelled again and overthrew the citadel and again the dark elves enacted brutal revenge and rebuilt the citadel only for humans to overthrow the citadel a third time causing the dark elves retaliate even harder.
The dark elves didn't rebuild their fortifications a fourth time, but they didn't let the humans recover either. The dark elves brutally raided all the human nations and tribes of East Colassia but they had special prejudice for the humans of this area due to ancient grudges.
When the Colassian Confederacy formed, the humans here took very little convincing and were among the first to join. Arguably, no nation in the Confederacy has benefited more from the alliance.
Once given a modicum of protection from periodic elven raids, the humans were able to properly reap the benefits of inhabiting a fertile river valley and excellent natural harbor. Their population and their wealth grew rapidly.
Sadly, the seals didn't do as well as the people. The area used to be replete with seals but hunting and habitat destruction has greatly diminished the plentiful that the land was once named after. The timely intervention of the Stewards has saved the local seals from the brink of the extinction but the future of the species here remains uncertain.
