"There is some good natured debate on whether this holiday was created by Lanterns and adapted by satyrs or whether it was created by satyrs and adapted by Lanterns.   The question is moot. One must never underestimate the amazing contributions made by smart and attractive satyr Lanterns.   Whoever came up with the idea first, the practice spread as more and people thought 'hey this looks fun, and it helps foster community ties., and the rest as they say, is history."

"The Dawn of Horning is a time to catch up with old friends. Some purists think that the best way to celebrate the occasion is with surprise viists, but pre-planned visits are the norm. There were too many instances of both friends traveling to the other person's home and finding it empty.   During the Dawn of Horning, everyone is your brother and sister. Often it's played for laughs with repetitions.. 'Hey brother, let me buy a drink, brother' 'Thanks brother, next round's on me, brother.'   It also be used for some playful flirting. 'oh really, I'm a sister to you (sad face). Who said I wanted to be your sister? (bats eyelashes)'.

  On a more altruistic note, everyone being your brother or sister is used as justification for charity. The Lanterns like to collect and distribute alms to the poor at this time, and hospitals often get a modest boost of donations at this time.   It's also a good time to make new friends, when everyone is your brother or sister, it's a good time to chat up new people."

"(exasperated sigh) It's always 'brother this, sister that' No one drinks in silence anymore. So annoying. At least a lot of people are in taverns spending money.   Charity begins with generously tipping your bar maid. Too many motherf@ckers forget this.   Horny customers are annoying, especially when they have actual horns. And actual horns. A lot of satyrs think it's blow on trumpets all damn day because it's the Dawn of Horning. Oh sooooo clever. I don't get paid enough for this."

"Officially, the Dawn of Horning only applies to the first of the month, but in practice it can stretch a week or two since travel time is often involved.   ZarthusZodiac month overlaps with the months of Hayseed and Harvest. Most people are quite busy during these times, so it's tough to squeeze another celebratory holiday into this time, especially one not associated with harvest festivals.   In contrast, the month of Horning is pretty boring and people are a litte restless from being cooped up so long.

  Things are warming up a little but spring is a good ways off. It's a common month for big hunting parties, but that's usually a nobles-only affair, so that doesn't help commoners. A lot of Lanterns thought this time of year could use another holiday and it's a good excuse to bundle up, leave and the house and do something...in Zarthus' honor of course.   Maybe some satyrs or one of their human friend also wanted to make a pun. A holiday beloved by satyrs in the month of Horning."
