The Hidden Sea of the Borderlands

Scarterra or more accurately Scarnoctis is dotted with many subterranean rivers, lakes, and seas.   Subterranean bodies of fresh water are useful for drinking but many of these bodies of water are salty which is still useful, especially in deep inland areas. Scarterrans can collect salty water from the brine springs and evaporate the water by boiling it or leaving it out for the sun and collect the salt. Salt is a valuable resource.

The most prodigious salt spring in the Border Baronies Region is in spot #11, which is currently home to the Barony of Bats who benefit economically from this convenient brine spring providing enough salt to support the locals and make a decent income exporting salt to neighboring Border Baronies.   What they don't know is that this inland sea is secretly home to a very long lived aquatic true monster exiled here from Scaraqua. This mysterious creature possesses powerful telepathic abilities which it uses to manipulate events towards destruction, responsible for the The bloody storied history of Border Baronies Spot #11.

Natural Resources

The area is home to subteranean plants and fish, but it's difficult for humanoids to harvest much from the waters because the monster living within claims the best food for itself, so the main resource that humanoids can pull from the area is the salt and doing so seemingly does not offend the creature living in its depths
