Personal history
Karolina was highborn, but she wasn't exactly born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Lady Karolina was born into a noninheriting branch of House Zielonkame, a respectable family but not an especially wealthy or influential one.
She had to advance on her own merits. Fortunately, her own merits were not lacking. She possessed a great intelligence and a solid work ethnic. She was also good at reading people.
As a junior advisor to the Wiern Chancellor, she was a rising star in the court of Duke Mateusz Palbuc, Duke Mateusz recognized her talent and was planning to make her his chancellor when his aging previous Chancellor was ready to retire, but suddenly Lady Karolina's sharp mind switched from being an asset to bein a liability.
Duke Mateusz died in a "hunting accident". Mateusz's brother Lord Stanislaw Palbuc arranged the hunting accident and in his acting role of Duke Regent, was plotting to arrange an accident for Mateusz's son, Duke Vern Palbuc. Lady Karolina was asking too many inconvenient questions.
Lord Stanislaw thought about arranging an accident for Lady Karolina, but he figured two suspicious deaths that close in proximity would attract too much scrutiny on his evil schemes, so he arranged to have Lady Karolina transferred to the royal court of Fumaya, ostensibly so she could get some seasoning and experience.
This worked well for Lady Karolina. She excelled in the royal court, and she impressed Prince Henryk with her extensive knowledge of politics. Shortly after Prince Henryk became King Henryk, he dismissed his father's previous Chancellor Lord Agost Prawdash and promoted Karolina into the vacancy.
Karolina has acquitted herself in her duties quite well thus far.

Lady Karolina is the youngest person to ever be appointed Royal Chancellor of Fumaya.
Failures & Embarrassments
While she was hardly the only one fooled, Karolina is upset that she was not able to sniff out Lord Stanislaw Palbuc's murderous conspiracy. After the scandal was revealed and Stanislaw was executed, Karolina believes the signs were fairly evident in hind sight.

Karolina is good at looking at the big picture and analyzing how things are all connected.
Chancellor Karolina has a reputation for being a pessimist. She brings up a lot of worst-case scenarios, not out of negativism but out of a desire to be prepared.

Karolina was born in southern Fumaya but her late mother was from northern Fumaya which is why Karolina manifests airy traits.
Lady Tulbet Carbow was a gnome teacher who really liked Karolina's mother, so has taken Karolina as a sort of surrogate niece. Lady Tulbet serves as Karolina's mentor and advisor.
Social Aptitude
Chancellor Karolina is a bit of a wallflower (at least by the standards of a Chancellor). She is a keen observer of mortal motivations and emotions, but is not very emotional expressive and sometimes comes off as a bit cold.
This is a little bit of a problem for a Chancellor, but she is strong willed and she can fake being a social butterfly for a short period if need be, and she has a loyal gnome right hand to help her with the more delicate social situations.
