Duke Janek Frymar

Duke Janek Frymar

Janek was the first born son of Grand Marshal Adrik Frymar and Grina.   His ambition was to be a great knight but against all odds, he became duke in 1613 because his uncle Duke Telek Frymar was not able to produce a male heir who didn't die tragically young. Technically, Adrik succeeded Telek in 1611, but when Telek died, Adrik was already in poor health.   Janek was a great fighter and a great tactician and he was personally charming but he was not well-lettered relying on courtiers to handle the day-to-day running of the Duchy of Frymar.   Not expecting to become a duke, he married a commoner, Zofia, before it was clear his uncle was not going to have a male heir. Janek had three daughters with Zofia and her inability to provide him a male air caused their marriage to become strained as did her refusal to learn to read or take part in ducal management or curb her excessive eating and drinking.   After Zofia's death, Janek married a much younger noble woman in 1629 and had one son with her in 1632.
