Michal was not a warrior or a man of the cloth. He was a politician. One of the first parchment pushers in Fumaya. He did not get along well with his brother the young duke, resenting that he did not inherit their father's title and leaving the Duchy of Wiern as soon as he was old enough to make his own decisions.
He spent most of his adult life as a courtier. the king's court serving several court positions across his career.
He married Katrine Palbuc in 1544 when she was 20 and he was 23. The two did not seem to have much romantic chemistry, but they worked together well in court, working in tandem to get the wheels of politics turning in directions of their choosing.
Opinions differ on whether their machinations were a force for good or evil.
