Session 42: "No plan survives contact with 200 air elementals" or "the Deoracs break wind"

General Summary

Kormatin had a lot of allies and materials to gather and passed through Ivanna City so he took a small detour to introduce himself to his recently discovered half-brother Henio the hat maker who among other things, gave him tips on what hats to wear to blend in with the locals of Old Swynfaredia.   Kormatin (and Kormatin's player) has been a raid on the County of Selwyth for quite a while.   Many of the rescued loas, Bethwyn and Ragle, wanted to reunite with their families, and two of them were from the County of Selwyth and had come to conclusion that bringing their families to Fumaya was the best option. Kormatin and company wanted to help.   Kormatin and his allies was looking for a grimoire and suspected the Selwyths had a secret forbidden cache of tomes and other potential treasure somewhere in the County of Selwyth.   Kormatin and Ralnor looked over a map of the County of Selwyth. They figured that the Selwyths would want their secret dungeon to be isolated enough that people don't accidentally stumble upon it but close enough to their central castle that they access it relatively quickly when needed, so they made a short list.   Once in the general vicinity of likely hidden dungeons, Kormatin planned to use Plant theurgy, Divination theurgy, and ghostly recon, and mundane detective work pinpoint the target.   Kormatin figured that while Kormatin was looting their secret dungeon, the Selwyths would not be paying close attention to what their peasants were doing so wouldn't notice two large extended families of peasants leaving.   Kormatin gathered many allies.   The main assualt team was Kormatin, Ragani, Bendek, and Brigid with several add-ons. Cambrie the spirit loa, the spirit loa formerly known as Gerallt, Cadek the Korus theurgist, and Bendek's mage-knight cousin Sir Erast (a necromancer who could cast Hunter's Mark).   The extraction team to protect Ragle and Bethwyn and their families was Aleesia, Aheneus Donal of the Dusk and [Boy's Name] of the Dusk.   Plus there was a cover team consisting of Lorna the spirit loa, Noggra the tengku, and two Keeper archers to make sure no one flanked the assault team.   The group crossed the Swynfaredian border in the Duchy of Palbuc.   Brigid impersonated a dragon warrior and the entourage of assorted characters played the role of her squad and servants. Brigid bluffed her way through the Swynfaredian battle lines fairly easy. The Swynfareidans weren't expecting casual infiltration and the houses don't often know what the other houses are doing. Once clear, they impersonated normal pilgrims and proceeded to the County of Selwyth arriving with major incident.   It was a pretty short and easy search. Plant theurgy and stunted reagent plants narrowed down the location. The Selwyth used zombie crow spies which made the PCs lose their element of surprise but it also created a proverbial arrow pointing towards the Selwyth's secret dungeon.   The Hunter's Mark spell was used so the group could split up and then find each other again. The Extraction Team, Cover Team, and Assault Team split to their assigned roles. It appeared that the guards of the secret dungeon entrance had left. Unbeknownst to Kormatin and company, the Selwyth's crow spies showed them Kormatin was coming and they retreated to call reinforcements.   There was a tunnel with a secret door and a room filled with fake treasure and another hidden door hid by illusions.   It lead to a chamber where a small mystery necromantic area effect was donuted by a larger Para Elemental Plane with dual loci. It later turned out that one of the mutilated primordial souls from the Age Before Ages was imprisoned here to cause air elementals here to be spawned as vaccuum elementals.   Bendek and Erast knocked out the mytery necromantic locus fairly quickly freeing the Tormented One. This had the side effect of crippling the loas present and briefly freezing Ragani in fear (she saw the Tormented One with enhanced spirit sight). But the removal of the Tormented One prevented more than three vaccuum elementals spawning.   The group fought and defeated three vaccuum elementals and five flesh golems powered by vaccuum elementals.   The Tormented One was essentialy clogging up an elemental energy font and once cleared, many air elementals rushed out and came out pissed, leveling much of the countryside.   Nami sent spirit minions to protect the people but they didn't protect everyone and there was lots of property damage.   Because of the elemental chaos, the Swynfaredians were not able to mount a response against Kormatin and company.

Rewards Granted
