Lunet the spirit loa

A lot of Scarterrans have a mix of earthy traits and watery traits. Sometimes this combination of influences results in green skin, which is often disparagingly called "swamp people" which is considered less attractive than the more commonly seen slightly brown/blue skin tone mixes, a mix often called "river people."   Lunet's general appearance falls somewhere on the spectrum between "river" and "swamp".

Lunet is a skilled spirit loa. She is a theurgist, but only barely, her ability to cast divine hexes is currently very limited but she plans to remedy that forthwith.

Lunet grew up in the land of Swynfaredia where sorcerers and sorceresses make up the upper class. The vast majority of sorcerers were born from established bloodlines but once in a great while, random commoners manifest sorcery as so-called "wild mages". Like many Swynfaredian boys and girls, Lunet dreamed of being one, but she never awakened unexpected sorcerous powers. She often prayed to the goddess Greymoria to make her a sorceress.   She did awaken spirit loa powers, which is impressive on it's own but is neither as powerful or as a prestigious as sorcery. This planted a tiny seed of bitterness against Swynfaredia's Dragonblood aristocracy.   A fair few spirit loas awaken their abilities after a near death experience. As a child, Lunet almost drown in a river and had to be resuscitated. This awakened her latent loa abilities and gave her her trademark raspy voice. It's likely a retcon, but Lunet now believes that the goddess Greymoria personally intervened to make sure she didn't die on that day and that was her baptism by the Dark Mother.   Even without almost drowning, Lunet had a rough childhood growing up in poverty with parents who weren't the nicest or most attentive, and they only became colder more distant after it was clear Lunet was a spirit loa prompting her to run away from home. This planted a seed of bitterness against her parents and society at large.   Lunet eked out a meager living with petty theft also acting as fortune teller and spirit loa for hire. Lunet was and is a skilled spirit loa, so she has a real ability to communicate with the dead, but Lunet has found it more profitable to pretend to talk to the dead than to actually talk to dead.   Talking to a dead person is pretty easy for a spirit loa, but talking to a very specific dead person is hard, and most Scarterrans who seek out the services of a spirit loa are hoping to talk to one of their deceased loved ones. Lunet is good at cold readings and is usually able to fake communication with a specific dead person and tell their living relatives what they want to hear.   She ran afoul of Sir Broderick the Loa Talon Warrior who was kidnapping spirit loas for magical experimentation on behalf of House Selwyth. Some Selwyth sorcerers were researching ways to magically augment spirit loas to create super soldiers.. Cruel imprisonment and experimentation turned Lunet's bitterness into a true thirst for vengeance.   Lunet and the 22 other spirit loas were eventually liberated from their prison camp, but this has done little to quench Lunet's prayers to vengeance to Greymoria. On the long and arduous journey away from Swynfaredia, Greymoria answered Lunet's prayers...indirectly. She became a theurgist, not a sorceress, one of the so-called self-anointed.   She has recently been accepted as an acolyte by Fumayan Children. Lunet viewed this as an obvious choice because the Children are the priests and priestesses of Greymoria, whom Lunet loves. And the Fumayans are at war with Kingdom of Swynfaredia whom she hates.

Lunet is not a sadist or a bully, but she has a strong persecution complex that she uses to justify taking what she wants and doing what she wants which syncs well with the goddess Greymoria's values which is why eventually Greymoria answered her prayers. Now Lunet fights for something rather than just against something, though she has given her piety and devotion to someone who is against many things.  

Lunet has real supernatural powers, but for most of her life found it expedient to fake using powers rather than using real powers. This relied on a lot of theatrics. This means that is theatrical and overly dramatic just in her normal interactions, and she is careful to use the same mannerisms and presentation when using her loa powers for real and when faking using her loa powers.   So it's very difficult to tell what is real and what is fake, and this is how she likes it.
