Xalbar the gnome
Xalbar is a shrewd manager and a skillful negotiator. The clay quarries of of Fumaya have never been more profitable since Xalbar was appointed their manager. Xalbar supervises the quarrymen, handles supply and pay issues, and negotiates sales of clay to the local potters.
Xalbar works with potters and sculptors a lot, and he dabbles as a potter in his free time as hobby but he doesn't do it professionally. Though, Xalbar's familarity with the aspects of pottery has earned him respect with the many professional potters of Fumaya.
Originally he merely a well paid hireling, he long had long since earned a nickname nickname "Master of Clay" that was recently turned into a formal court position in recognition for the informal court prestige he had acquired, not that this changed his daily job duties at all.

Xalbar is still spry but he is nearing his second century and losing dexterity in his fingers, and stamina in his twilight years but his mind is sharp as ever.
Apparel & Accessories
Xalbar rarely wears formal courtly wear preferring to wear utilitarian clothes but he does signify his status subtly by wearing a fine Phrygian cap with a golden buckle.

Personal history
Xalbar was a humble merchant of pottery, but he had a sharp mind and good social skills allowing him to rise in wealth and standing, eventually earning a position supervising the clay quarries answering directly to multiple generations of the King of Fumaya.
Technically he was just a hireling of the king and had no special status, but again his skills allowed to him advance. Many courtiers in the royal Fumayan court went to him for advice or to avail themselves of Xalbar's many business contacts in the city of King's Lake.
He gained a nicknamed "Master of Clay", but the latest king King Henryk opted to formally recognize the title of Master of Clay in recognition of his years of loyal and skilled service.

Family Ties
Xalbar is a widower with three adult children: Two daughters and a son. Some of his Xalbar's children are grandparents in thier own right.
His eldest daughter is following in her father's footsteps and has become indispensible in helping Xalbar carry out his duties as Master of Clay. The Master of Clay is not technically a hereditary role, but she is all but guaranteed to inherit his position when he dies or retires.
Xalbar's son became a skilled potter and emigrated to land of Kantoc. Xalbar's youngest daughter married a well-to-do craftsman and became a homemaker.
