moon bats
The "moon bats" is an informal nickname for the newest generation of far flying kalazotz.
For most of their history, the kalazotz as a whole have kept to themselves and adopted a policy of peaceful isolation. A large number allied with the wood elves of Codenya and the dwarves of Meckelorn and later Stahlheim too. But the dwarves and wood elves are fairly isolationist themselves. The dwarf influenced kalazotz rarely ventured above ground and the Codenya kalazotz rarely flew far from their tree houses.

The tragic massacre of the grey forest kalazotz looms large in the collective memory of many kalazotz making them wary of the outside world, especially in lands dominated by humans, but a new generation of kalazotz have opted to enter the lands above ground away from the trees. These adventurous kalazotz are nicknamed "moon bats" because they love to fly under the wide night sky.
The moon bats haven't spread very far yet, but they have lofty ambitions for exploring and/or settling on all of Scarterra, or at least all of West Colassia....the parts without camazotz at least.

Shared customary codes and values
The moon bats are eager to learn about new cultures but they retain their roots as dwarf influenced kalazotz, so they value courage, honor and hard work.
Like most kalazotz, the moon bats strongly value family ties and commonly worship Mera as their patron deity.
Because they are now flying under the actual sky, instead of flying in underground caverns, the new generations of moon bats are giving more credence to Zarthus, god of the moon, and Khemra, goddess of the sun. A tiny number have begun training as priests and priestesses and the human Lanterns and Keepers are delighted to spread their deity's' values to a new population.

Major organizations
With the aid of their dwarf allies, the kalazotz have created their first autonomous realm above ground in the Border Baronies Region. The so called Barony of Bats. The Barony of the Bats has two generations of kalazotz born and raised above ground, but the Barony still sees new ways of kalazotz immigrants from Meckelorn and Stahlheim which makes up for the clouds of kalazotz opting to emigrate out of the Barony.
