Basia is a priestess of the goddess Mera. She is a fairly unorthodox priestess, focused more on the dead than the living. Like most of Mera's Tenders, she views herself as a healer but she is more focused on healing souls than healing bodies. As a spirit loa, she can detect ghosts and occasionally channel the power and knowledge of the dead in limited bursts. Her strongest calling is to help the restless dead, aka ghosts, pass on to the proper afterlife. She also tries to prevent ghosts from forming in the first place, serving as a counselor to older and ailing living people to try to make sure they die without regrets and making sure that funerary practices are performed flawlessly (proper funerary practices reduce but do not completely eliminate the chances of the deceased rising again as a ghost). Basia will exorcise ghosts that are beyond saving, but only as a last resort. And doing so will often put Basia into a lengthy period of melancholy. It doesn't make things easier that the main way to exorcise a ghost is to beat them into oblivion with a Silverwood staff."Basis is a good person, and she definitely provides an important service to Fumaya and the Nine. She is nice and friendly and even pretty. But being around her makes the hairs on my neck stand up. I don't know if it's her or the friends that follow in her wake." -Aheneus Estalar of the Dawn, priest of Khemra
