Confederate half-satyrs
Most surprisingly, a half human/half satyrs have such pronounced elven traits that we age slower than both humans and satyrs. Sometimes that's a little awkward for our parents as we seem take a very long time to mature, just like true half-elves. Some believe half-elves are treated better than half-satyrs. Some half-satyrs (I won't name names) will deny their goatly heritage and actively pretend to be half-elves. I don't think this is right, but I won't get into it right now. Other times, people will just assume by looking at them that half-satyrs are half-elves, and the half-satyrs simply choose not to correct them. I understand this at least. I am proud of my satyr heritage but I see the need to rub my horns in everyone's faces. I asked Aurum Zara about her time in East Colassia. Most half-elves in East Colassia are half dark elves. Most half-dark elves are enslaved or are former slaves. Because of the dark deeds of the Dark elves, half-dark elves are viewed as subjects of either suspicion or pity. This means that half-satyrs in East Colassia will always tell people that they are half-satyrs. They introduce 'Hi, I'm such and such and Name, half-satyr!' They will emulate satyr customs and mannerisms as much as possible and they often like to wear hats that have fake horns on them.""According to legend, the first satyrs used to be elves. If a satyr conceives a child with a non-satyr, the satyrs' latent elf blood usually is awakened. A half-human/half-satyr is barely distinguishable from a half-human/half-elf. I happen to have tiny horns, but you can't see if the horns if I grow my hair out or if I wear a hat. I'm the exception, most half-satyrs don't have horns...or any other obvious goatly signs.
"A lot of people say that satyrs prefer to have sex with non-satyrs over their own kind. That might be true for some satyrs, but given how half-elves are treated in the lands controlled Colassian Confederacy, we Confederate Satyrs are noticeably more careful about leaving a bunch half-satyr kids in our wake. I never made any personally but I've been uncle to a few. Some of them hang around full-satyrs as much as possible and seek their herd that way. A lot of them seek a surrogate herd devoting themselves completely to a priesthood, sailing ship, guild, adventuring party or some other group."
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Shared customary codes and values
There aren't a lot of half-satyrs in the lands of the Confederacy, and they are pretty widely dispersed geographically, so they don't have much of a unified culture.
They tend to look for another group and adopt their customs vigorously. Be it a religious group, trade guild, satyr herd, performance troupe, mercenary company, sailing ship or almost any relatively tight group between ten and two hundred people.
Common Etiquette rules
In some ways, Confederate half-satyrs want to be like satyrs so much that they over compensate.
On average, satyrs are generally more emotional expressive and gregarious than humans, less apt to lean on formal etiquette. Confederate satyrs are a little bit more subdued than satyrs but they still fit the satyr mold in this regard.
Confederate half-satyrs have a tendency to be even more expressive and in-your-face than their full-blooded kin.
Common Dress code
Like full-blooded satyrs, Confederate half-satyrs like to wear practical clothing for the elements but as bright and flashy as they can get away with.
Because of their tendency to overcompensate, Confederate half-satyrs often dress louder and more flamboyantly than their full blooded kin. Many opt to wear symbolic fake horns.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
Confederate half-satyrs follow the birth rites of full Confederate satyrs very closely. This primarily involves a naming ceremony where the infant is gently covered in dust and then ritually washed.
Coming of Age Rites
Like their full-blooded kin, half-satyrs commonly go on a vision quest in the wilderness with minimal water and food.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Only a few half-satyrs have small horns, most are hornless. Confederate half-satyrs with horns commonly cut their hair short near the top of their head to make their horns clearly visible.
Confederate half-satyr without horns mimicked the hair style out of solidarity. This is a marked difference from most full blooded satyrs who prefer to wear their hair long.
Sometimes they wear short hair all around. Sometimes just hair up front with a pony tail or some version of a medieval mullet.
