Countess Cariadna ap Selwyth (a.k.a. the late Countess of Stagdrift)
Cariadna was the former Countess of Stagdrift, ruler of the mineral rich Stagdrift Hills County. That is until her untimely death where her title passed to her young son Count Llewellyn ap Selwyth.
Both her son Llewllyn and her widower Lord Maddoc ap Kovenoth believe her death leaves unanswered questions.

Personal history
She was the eldest child and eldest sorcerous child of the previous ruler of Stagdrift Hills County, her father.
In her early twenties, she married a non-inheriting dragonblood, Lord Maddoc ap Kovenoth and they had one son and one daughter. The son, Llywelyn, is a sorcerer. Her daughter, Awen, is still too young to be sure.
Cariadna inherited her father's title when she was 29. Since her death accounts of her were puffed up to make her look better. Most honest accounts peg as a reasonably competent but not exceptional ruler and manager. She spent a lot of her time honing her sorcerous craft and was a proponent of the broader House Selwyth agenda to legitimize necromancy.
When it came to actually running her realm, Cariadna leaned heavily on her advisors and her husband to actually run the realm.
She died in an inn on her way back from a greater family gathering. Supposedly murdered by a peasant man name Owain who had a brother perish in a mining accident in Stagdrift Hills.
Her son and husband find it suspicious that were a lot of unlikely coincidences. Cariadna didn't travel very much, but one of the few peasants that truly hated her was able to find her in a random inn. Carianda's Fell Night bodyguard just happened to be asleep while on watch (and he got brained by Owain as well), and Owain managed to escape the inn without being spotted initially, though a Selwyth task force was eventually able to deduce that Owain was responsible and track him down (it helped that he boasted of his deed in a tavern). And Owain was executed.
The killer did have a brother who died in a mining accident, but Llywelyn believes he was merely an expendable pawn in a dragonblood's assassination plan. Presumably backed with illusion magic in order to let a filthy peasant get that close to a noblewoman with a large club.
