Royal Investigator of Fumaya
Royal Investigator is a formal court position in the Kingdom of Fumaya that was created very recently.
Exactly what it sounds like, the Royal Investigator looks for criminals, traitors, and spies.
Appointment
The Royal Investigator is selected by the king, though intially King Henryk had never met Kormatin and appointed him based on a recommendation by Revered Mother Alexandra Frymar.
Responsibilities
The Royal Investigator can pursue criminals and espionage agents when and where he wants at his own discretion.
Benefits
Mostly status and prestige as the position is not formally paid, though the Royal Investigator can ask for resources and usually receive them.
Legally, any Fumayan who impedes the searches of the Royal Investigator is opposing the king (that's what the royal edict that created the post says).

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
It's not a lifetime appointment. The position ends when the royal investigator resigns or the king dismisses him, and this can theoretically be done at any time.
History
The post was created specifically for Kormatin.
Originally Kormatin was only given a temporary assingment to investigate specific suspicious activity but Kormatin was wildly successful in uncovering hidden plots well beyond expectations, and Kormatin also became somewhat of a folk hero.
So King Henryk opted to make the position permanent. While Kormatin can keep the job as long as he wants it, Henryk intends to keep the position openly permanently and pass the torch to another investigator when and if it becomes necessary.
